We started by waking him up with a balloon (one of his favorite things).
Then we took him over to the playground to run around the jungle gym, go down the slide, and swing on the swings. After that, we met up with Dad at his new office... looks like we have a little Private Equity guy in training.
Afterwards, we took Owen to lunch near Dad's office where we took turns blowing in his face (surprisingly, one of his favorite games). We think his attempt to blow back is one of the cuter things we've seen.
Unfortunately, Dad had to go back to work, so Mom took Owen to the Central Park Zoo... it was a bit cold today, so we spent most of the time inside in the Penguin and Puffin room where Owen banged on the glass with all his might, startling every Penguin in sight.
After Owen ate his favorite dinner (chicken, avocado, cheese and meatballs), Dad came home and we had Owen's first birthday cake. We were convinced upon seeing the cake, he'd dive right into it (literally)... but surprisingly, he wasn't sure what to make of it and took an uncharacteristically cautious approach to eating it.
Eating the cake naturally led right into bathtime...
And Owen wanted to end the year just as it started... in his birthday suit. 
We just put our little birthday boy to bed... we had a great time today with our little guy, and we're excited to celebrate with our families up in Boston this weekend!

Oh my goodness!! Those videos are fabulous! I love his initial hesitation when eating the cake... What a big boy he is now - I still can't believe it's been a year:) Congratulations to you all - what a milestone! What a great day it is when your "Number 1 Baby" turns 1 himself! All the funny photos ad videos made us feel like we could share Owsie's big day in person. Love you O and see you Saturday! Hugs and kisses....Grammy and Papa.
Owen it`s hard to believe a year ago you blessed our lives and yet it has flown by all at the same time! What did we ever do without you?? Happy first birthday lil O man!
